Gonzalez Family in Thailand - Vol. 1, No. 4

"The ultimate purpose in life is to show that Jesus is more precious than life."

Thailand Recon

Next week I will be traveling to Thailand to get some things setup for our arrival in June. Amazingly, but not surprisingly, God has already blessed us with a place to live. Back in December when we realized that we were definitely going to be living in Chiang Mai, I mentioned it to a friend of ours from church, Cathy, who happened to live in Chiang Mai for a few years teaching at an international school. She offered to connect us with her old roommate so that maybe we we could get in touch with some other families that homeschool. It turns out one of the families in this network happened to be that of a couple named James and Sarah. After connecting with that couple we learned that they were going to be coming back to the states for a year less than a month before we are scheduled to arrive. They offered to let us sublet their house and after learning that they also had five kids at home we jumped on the opportunity to be part of this very cool story. So James and Sara will be living in James and Sarah's house for our first year in Chiang Mai. How cool is that?!?

In addition to getting the house situation finalized I am planning to stop by LTC, get some details on the language school I plan on attending and hopefully connect with another homeschooling family that we might be able to partner with through the curriculum we use, Classical Conversations. There is a lot to do in a relatively short period of time so I hope travel goes smoothly.

Ordination

Last week I had the honor of being ordained and licensed in ministry by Wellspring Church in Webb City, MO. It was a day I will never forget and I am thankful to the elders and the staff at Wellspring (Scott, Phil, Bob, Bob, Jared, and Kit) for walking with me through the ordination process and praying over me at the ceremony. I am also very thankful to Tim W. who also prayed for us at the ordination ceremony. Tim has had a great impact on my life and I am so thankful he was part of this personally meaningful event. I am so grateful for the entire congregation at Wellspring and our Classical Conversations community for their prayer over my entire family. We are going into this ministry endeavor as a team and we have been blessed by a great cloud of witnesses who are committed to sending all of us off well.

Specific Prayer Requests

  • Safe and smooth travel, especially in light of the corona virus concerns in Asia and throughout the world.

  • Give thanks to God for how well things have gone thus far. Some days are overwhelming but for the most part we are hitting our mile markers about where we need to as we go through the transition process.

  • Please pray for Sara and the girls as they finish out the school year just before we leave. It's difficult to get ready to drive away from home while focusing on major year end events.

  • 97 days until launch.

"...I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self control."

2 Timothy 1:6-7
